"Oil Cake (Gliko Tapsiou Me Ladi)" from Wildflour Bakery, Covington, KY
1 1/2 c Oil * 1 1/2 c Orange juice * 1 1/2 c Sugar 2 tb Brandy (or slightly more) 1 ts Baking soda 1 ts Cinnamon 1 ts Ground cloves 1/2 c Walnuts 1/2 c Raisins 600 g Flour A few sesame seeds A little oil *[NOTE: Original recipe calls for "1 1/2 glasses of oil and 1 1/2 glasses of orange juice". No mention of what size glass, as is typical of Greek cookbooks.] Combine the oil, the orange juice and sugar. Dissolve the soda with the brandy and add it to the mixture also; add the cinnamon and the ground cloves. Then very gradually add the flour, stirring constantly. Finally, combine the walnuts and the raisins with the mixture. Coat a medium sized baking tin to spread the mixture evenly. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and bake for 40 50 minutes. DESCRIPTION: On Sunday's the Wildflour brings a large contingent of loyal customers who can't wait to enjoy some of Sarah and John Kell's wares. From delicious freshmade bakery goodies: scones, bagels, muffins, to delicious brunch options, the quality of food is second to none in the area. But you don't have to wait for Sunday brunch to enjoy the Wildflour, located near the Suspension Bridge, you can stop by on your way to a Red's game, or during lunch throughout the week to enjoy this unexpected jewel. The laid-back charm of the establishment makes the experience very comfortable, starting from the great personalities of the owners, to the friendly neighborhood folks who stop in here for a meeting place. Hopefully you will get a chance to stop into the Wildflour yourself, I'm sure you will enjoy the experience, and of course the food as well.

DESCRIPTION: If you're one of the waitresses' favorites, expect to get served before people who were already seated when you arrived. Those unlucky souls will get their hot meals served lukewarm, at best. The bakery items are excellent; the lunch items are . . . well, the best bakers don't make great cooks, and the best chefs don't make great bakers.
