The Finest Service
DESCRIPTION: Everyone recommended this as the premier restaurant in town, and for good reason. The ambiance (in an old hotel, being nicely restored) is very pleasant, yet the atmosphere is relaxed and casual. The waitresses operate as a well-oiled team, with each ready to serve any table in any way. (I must have been helped by six different ones, and those who didn't have cause to help me all smiled as they walked by -- wow!) The food is as good as the service, and the prices are surprisingly reasonable. This restaurant would do credit to a city far larger, and anyone within shouting distance of this place is urged to visit. It's even worth a special detour to do so.

Big Changes - No Improvements
DESCRIPTION: The Eklund was recently renovated and the dining room made much larger. Sadly, it wasn't a good thing. The bar area which was once very charming and quaint now looks like the inside of a barbershop. Gone are the pictures of historical Clayton, gone is the cozy fireplace. The new dining room (used to be part of the hotel), has no charm either. The food is bland and the terribly overworked waitstaff does their best to keep up, unsuccessfully, I'm afraid. We ate there a couple of months after opening and the staff was still completely confused about who does what and what the procedure is to take orders and serve food. We waited a good 20 minutes for someone to give us a menu and then had three different waitresses try to take our order. Although the Eklund is still the best place in Clayton to eat (avoid the Hi-Ho at all costs), it isn't nearly as good as it used to be.

DESCRIPTION: Wow. That is the best way to explain it. The food is great, the people are very nice. I don't see anything they could do better. The hotel is also awesome. I wouldn't eat or stay anyplace else.

Very enjoyable place to stop!
DESCRIPTION: My husband and I stopped here on a drive through NM to Texas. We loved the atmosphere and the service, the food was great and we loved the charming hotel and attached saloon. We stopped last year and we are planning to stop again this year on our annual trip... what a lovely place!

Something special/hidden treasure
DESCRIPTION: A glorious hole-in-the-wall worth going out of your way for. Quite possibly the best commercial green chile cheeseburger there is. They've been around quite a while a stone's throw from the famous Owl Cafe which by comparison is a has-been. Even if you don't usually consider a burger, make an exception for something common done memorably well. You wait a bit longer than usual for a burger; that's because they do it right.

Friggin' awesome
DESCRIPTION: We were on vacation from So. CA and stopped in at Buckhorn. Bob was excellent and his burger was Absolutely perfect in every way. I don't know what else to say. I was rendered speechless. Service was also top notch. Easy access off the freeway, etc. etc. If you're in the neighborhood, stop in and you can love it too! --Wag--

The Buckhorn Burger - On another planet
DESCRIPTION: Absoultely the best burger because every part of it is right. First I asked for a burger to go and the owner (Bob) said we don't do to-go! Very good advice. This is not a burger you want sitting in a bag nor the fries. When you bite down into the bun it says from both texture to taste it was designed for this burger. It was light and fresh which prepared you for the move into the most delicious green chile concoction that just prepares you for the cheese, burger, and other condiments including the lettuce and tomato. I order french fries because as a kid growing up in chicago they were a big deal because they were made fresh. The potato bags would be out front of Jimmy's hot dog stand in the morning and he would be cutting fresh potatoes all day. The same fresh taste here. If you need atmosphere they have it-- people happily eating food. What more do you need when someone invites you over to have a burger! Enjoy and don't bother with to-go food.

The Best Burger in New Mexico
DESCRIPTION: It doesn't matter if you like green chile or not; Manny's is the best burger in New Mexico. Well worth a stop!!!! Nice atmosphere.
