Wow! What a Treat!
DESCRIPTION: We stopped in here one Thursday with the intent of getting a quick dinner before catching the outdoor movie just down the street at Cinema La Placita. I gues we kind of expected the standard diner fare, you know, grilled sandwiches, that kind of thing. Wrong! The Grill puts together one great meal. Ordering Portabella stroganoff and the spinach ravioli in pink herbed sauce, we knew weren't in your ordinary diner. Our Ceasar salads arrived quickly, and they were okay, although the dressing had a bit too much vinegar for my tastes. After finishing off the salads, out came two dinners, unfortunately one was the wrong order. The waitress, immediately noticed, apologized, and returned it to the kitchen, with the promise that all would be set right. Knowing each other rather well, we just tucked into the portabella stroganoff and garlic bread. This was quite tasty -- big chunks of portabella, that slight taste of sour cream, it was as good as any stroganoff that we've had. Just after finishing the stroganoff, the ravioli came out. Wow! We just can't tell you how good this stuff was, you'll just need to try it for yourself. Huge spinach and cheese ravioli smothered in a heavy cream sauce (yes it was pink), it was just wonderful. For dessert: chocholate cream pie and carrot cake. Both were good (and made fresh daily), although the carrot cake was just a touch dry, but after the ravioli we'd easily forgive the dryness. If you're looking for ambiance, you're barking up the wrong tree, after all this is a diner in downtown Tucson. But, if good food is what you're after, The Grill should be near the top of you're list.
