Mel' Diner Comes to Bloomington
DESCRIPTION: This long-time Bloomington restaurant situated in the heart of downtown Bloomington looks like the city was built around it. When you go inside, you'll notice that it looks like not much has changed in the last 40 or 50 years -- at least not inside Ladyman's. The customers range from greasy blue-collar workers to $1500 suits. The service is...ahhhhh, what do you expect from a diner? But it's not TERRIBLE. The food is GOOD though. They have some of the best fried chicken I've ever had -- when they make it. It's one of their "special" dishes not on the regular menu. They serve up hot Manhattan sandwiches, mashed potatoes, beef and gravy sandwiches, burgers, fries, polishes and a REALLY good chicken Manhattan. They have several pies for dessert. They also serve breakfast all day long. They are open from about 6 or 7am til about 4pm. They mainly cater to the downtown crowd. The biggest downside to this restaurant is the SMOKING! When you walk in, you are in the smoking section. The non-smoking section is in another room, BUT the ventilation is not very good. If you have allergies or sensitivity to cigarette smoke (as I do), you might want to be wary of the lack of clean air. Some days it's better than others. The food is pretty cheap and plentiful. The average price that I paid for lunch is about $5-6. Considering that I usually got an entree with two sides and a drink, that's not bad. This place is the real deal. No fancy furniture, menus, dishes, waitresses ... nuthin' ... just good food served reasonably fast. You can be in and out in 45 minutes. Possibly faster if you eat faster than me.

The best place to go hungover
DESCRIPTION: I think Ladymans Cafe is by far the best place to go for breakfast. I service isn't the best but nothing can beat their biscuits and gravy. For only 5.57 you can walk out full and not feel like crap from all the alcohol you drank the night before at Nick's Pub. I don't really recomend the coffee however, it is always watery.

Super Breakfast place
DESCRIPTION: This is a traditional diner. They do breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but the breakfast is what I come for. They have all the standards for under $6. The staff are very nice and keep the coffee cups filled. They accept credit cards and have savings coupons online which you can use any day or time.

I've had better
DESCRIPTION: I ate a breakfast platter with 2 eggs, hash browns, sausage, toast and a half order of biscuits and gravy. Let me start by saying the eggs were supposed to be over med and the whites weren't done at all the hash browns were not even brown the gravy was watery and the biscuits were hard as rocks. The best thing was the sausage and toast that s pretty sad. If you go to Palmyra Indiana stay away from Frannie's Diner, also the bathroom smelt like someone peed on the floor like 4 hours earlier very dirty and disgusting...

Best breakfast in town!
DESCRIPTION: I have eaten here several times for breakfast, always lots of food, very reasonably priced. The restaurant is built around an old railroad car, sits near the railroad tracks. Lots of locals, a no nonsense but friendly atmosphere.

Average Dinner
DESCRIPTION: My wife and I went there tonight and we both got the New York Strip and Shrimp. The shrimp was great, but the steak was a very average. They really heap on the portions, but I would rather get less food and better quality.

By the railroad for over 50 years
DESCRIPTION: The Monon restaurant, orignally the Monon Grill, still retains the railroad theme that was the reason for its existence when the Monon railroad stopped at the adjacent Greencastle station (now, sadly, demolished). The building is essentially the same as when it was built of white enameled steel. (It is not an "old fashioned" railroad car.) I agree with the previous reviewer that the breakfast is worth a visit. However, I know of few places where you have such a choice of "sides" with your lunch or dinner. While not a four-star restuarant, it is worth the stop when visiting DePauw University or traveling on US 231. Honestly, there isn't much in food service in Greencastle so the Monon may be the best bet in town for a "down-home" meal. Pick up a t-shirt with the logo of the restuarant that, when the scipt is viewed from a distance, seems to ready, "Moron Restaurant".

In business for at least 60 years!
DESCRIPTION: The Monon restuarant has been a fixture in Greencastle for over 60 years. It formally was a very small facility covered in white steel and was the Monon Grill. The Monon railroad station was next door so one could sit and watch the trains roll by. Today the restuarant has expanded from seating for about 35 patrons mostly at the counter to being able to serve about 60 at a time. The menue is typical Hoosier food with much more than you can eat served by the proprietors, the Monnetts. The decor is railroadiana, local rodeo posters and antiques. Service is very good with waitresses being very attentative. The food is good with a wide choice of "sides" including some that you rarely see on most menus. The restuarant also sells T-shitrs that have Monon in script on the back. Mine is such that from a distance it looks more like, "Moron Resturant" certainly an eye-catcher. Greencastle is not known for its cuisine but the Monon is a great place to stop when in Greencastle. Look for the RR crossing lights in front and the white building next to the railroad crossing of highway 231.

Home Cooking
DESCRIPTION: This is a good restaurant to get good plain food, with vegetables, at a decent price. It's tough to find a place to feed kids. I feel like my kids should be able to get vegetables and milk at a restaurant, and a lot of restaurants aren't set up for that.
