DESCRIPTION: This place is overflowing most weekends - great food at a reasonable price with hard-working waitresses. Nothing fancy here - just eggs with whatever, and some world class crepes. Friendly people, with good food served fast. Even though the place gets decorated according to season - usually in a tacky fashion, its still a homey atmosphere. Worth the time and money. Your tummy will love you for it.

Dudley's Diner a lost oasis
DESCRIPTION: A regular venue for the locals, the pastrami grilled reuben is hands down the best sandwich I have ever had. Daily lunch specials that are as kind on your palate as they are on your wallet. Amazing Spinich omelete with ham and chedder for breakfast, if you can keep away from the outstanding homemade pies. Good luck leaving here without a smile on your face.

Best Pies in Maine
DESCRIPTION: You can't go wrong when you set foot in Moody's diner. The menu consists of standard diner fare, but always, and I mean *always*, leave room for the pie. Moody's makes some of the best pies I've ever tasted - my favorite being the four-berry pie. Of course, you can't go wrong with any of their berry pies (my wife loves the rasberry pie). If your find yourself driving through Waldoboro, save your appetite until you find Moody's.

Tasty, Inexpensive Food
DESCRIPTION: Not like a diner in Jersey or Philly where it tastes like all of the food is frozen or from can but one where there is actually some fresh food---this place is worth going to if you're up on route 1 (unfortunately it's not in a town but just plopped along the roadside rather than an appealing downtown). Unfortunately it is definitely not 24 hours, especially on the weekends where they "stay open late until 10" or something. So where do you go for food in Maine at 1 or 2 am?

Moody's is Mecca to Me
DESCRIPTION: I go to Moody's every year when I vacation in Maine, and this year I planned my vacation to make it possible to go to it as much as possible. I am a trained Chef. I've worked in France, NY, and San Francisco, and am basically a food snob. However I had a great Grandmother I was fortunate enough to know well when I was a child, and going to Moody's is like having her feed me all over again. The old fashioned entrees served with home made biscuits warm from the oven, are like soul food to me. The pies and gingerbread are heavenly. It isn't gourmet food. But it is made by people who love their food and love what they do. I can taste that love in every bite. The service is friendly, warm, and fast, despite the constant throng of customers. My advice is to never wait for a table but grab a seat at the counter where the waitresses will charm you with their friendly banter, and you can watch the big steaming plates of food come out of the kitchen. I bought their cookbook, and was dismayed by the constant use of "oleo", but I'm telling you, if it works for them, and it does, I'm prepared to suspend judgement. I would highly recommend Moody's to anyone. Take a food trip back into time. Oh, and leave room for dessert.

A Must
DESCRIPTION: Brings a tear to your eye when you have to go. Our family has been vacationing in Maine for over 25 years and still to this day it is a must stop for breakfast lunch and dinner. Great food, low prices and friendly service. Something for everyone. I remember years ago my brother and friend drove from Clifton NJ to Moodys just for cheeseburgers and chocolate shakes. From the hot pancakes to the blueberry pie, a fixture in the Maine landscape and a must stop any time of the day and evening.

It Wouldn't be Maine Without Moody's!
DESCRIPTION: My family discovered Moody's in 1988, after spending part of every summer in Prouts Neck since the 1930s. We rarely ventured to midcoast Maine since Prouts was so lovely. But Moody's makes it worth the trip! It truly is food like grandma used to cook. Their pies are the most heavenly things every. And all their food is delicious (never tasted anything there I didn't love!), homemade and cheap! That's one of the best parts of the experience. I used to camp with my five kids (as a single mom) and could afford to feed all of them several times during our trips at Moody's. They also have great, quaint cabins on the secluded, pine-covered hill behind the diner - and those prices are amazing, too! Oh, forgot to mention - the service is always fast and very friendly. Don't know how they maintain their great attitudes with the crush of customers they get at every meal!

Reopens Under New Management!
DESCRIPTION: The Bristol Diner, a local spot for over forty years, has repoened this summer and from all accounts it is better than ever. I enjoyed the poached eggs on toast and the dialogue with a retired PHD regarding shellfish stocks in the Damariscotta River. The food is good, but the clientele is a big part of enjoying the Bristol Diner.

A True Maine Diner
DESCRIPTION: Sure, the Maine Diner offers breakfast all day (which is very popular, judging by the plates of pancakes, waffles, and eggs I saw streaming out of the kitchen), and they have the diner standards such as sandwiches and chicken pot pie, but, the real draw here, at least for tourists, is the seafood. The seafood chowder is billed as having won the best chowder award in the Ogunquit Chowderfest, and it is deserving of the accolades. This is a thin-style chowder, not overly thickened with potatoes, but rich with cream and plenty of seafood, including shrimp and lobster claw meat. At $4.25 a cup, it's not cheap, but rather a worthy indulgence. Lobster rolls are offered in two styles. They have the normal Maine-style cold lobster roll, which is lobster salad on a toasted bun. Their hot lobster roll (the "Dale Arnold") offers chunks of hot fresh knuckle and claw meat, served on a grilled roll, with drawn butter on the side (no mayo). While this type of roll can be found in Southern New England, it is not at all common up here. Their rendition is excellent, with a generous portion of perfectly cooked lobster overflowing the bun. Service was a bit rushed, but that was to be expected, since the restaurant was full, and there was a line waiting for tables. All in all, they did a good job of keeping up, including prompt refills of my water glass.

A Great Diner
DESCRIPTION: I consider this a 'great' restaurant because it does what it sets out to do so very well. The menu is varied, including such typical diner fare as meatloaf, mac and cheese and burgers. But they also serve fabulous (though pricey) Shecrab soup and clam chowder (It's Maine, after all!) as well as some of the tastiest seafood around. Something for everybody at moderate prices, this popular place may have you standing in line for a while, but it is well worth the wait.

The finer diner
DESCRIPTION: Don't be discouraged by the long lines waiting to eat at the Maine Diner. Your patience will be amply rewarded by some of the best regional cuisine Maine has to offer. Yes, there are bigger restaurants with nicer views (the Diner resides on commercial Route 1), but the Maine Diner beats them hands-down almost every time with its out-of-this world clam chowder, lobster pie, clam cake plate, fresh fried clams, yellow fin tuna steak and "Phantom Platter," an assortment of some of the Phantom Gourmet's (of New England Cable News) favorite items: a cup of seafood chowder, an eight oz. sirloin steak, two baked shrimp, five oz. of baked scallops and homemade onion rings. Don't forget to leave room for the memorable blueberry pie, traditionally a Maine favorite. The Maine Diner also features an exceptionally pleasant and professional waitstaff. Along with the legendary Shawmut Diner in New Bedford, Mass., and the Tilt'n Diner in Tilton, N.H., the Maine Diner is our top diner choice in New England, as well as a number one pick for Maine cuisine.
