Who would have thought Elkins WV would have a restaurant like this?
DESCRIPTION: The Three Forks Cafe is far and away my favorite restaurant in Elkins. The food is expertly prepared from fresh ingredients with a subtle attention to color, taste, texture and presentation. The salads are the freshest I have had within a 75-mile radius, and are not simply wedges of iceberg smothered in ranch dressing, but simple field greens accompanied by amazing homemade dressings and slightly exotic ingredients such as dried currants, crumbled roquefort cheese, toasted pinenuts or hearts of palm. The limited menu changes daily, based on what fresh ingredients are available and may include a savory lima bean soup, wild mushroom and leek rissoto or corned beef brisquet. There are usually several vegetarian entrees, and excellent pastas. The owners obviously love food and love sharing their enthusiasm with diners. This is not a fancy establishment, but a comfortable restaurant that offers high-quality, interesting dishes at a reasonable price. Beer and wine are available. My only complaint about the Three Forks Cafe is the limited hours of operation. This place is simply too good to only be open three nights a week

DESCRIPTION: Ce n'est pas possible, but in the heartland of American traditional fiddle music in West Virginia, a delightful European surprise awaits the casual visitor. More in the tradition of a neighborhood Parisian bistro or an Italian trattoria, Three Forks Cafe, open only limited hours during the week, will tempt the palate as nowhere else short of Washington DC. The pasta dishes are incredible, and the brisket speaks for itself. The atmosphere is a world away. Service is friendly, and never rushed. Prices very reasonable. Simply not to be missed

Delicious Vegetarian Fare.
DESCRIPTION: Good food, prices reasonable. Wonderful salad. Choice of four entrees, changes daily (check website). Can be crowded at busy times. Service usually fine. No reservations. Nice cafe/bar attached, where you can wait to be seated. Several cookbooks by members of Moosewood Collective are for sale, along with shirts, cuddly moose dolls, salad dressings, soups, frozen entrees. World famous for the vegetarian cookbooks.

french onion soup
DESCRIPTION: A great place to have a few cocktails, mabye a bottle of wine. Big windows offer a great view at night, when the lights of canal park light up. It's a checkered floor fish tank that's surprisingly cozy. Try the french onion soup.

Themed Dinner & Movie Night
DESCRIPTION: Every 3rd Wednesday of the month, Artemisia hosts a themed dinner and movie night. This month's dinner was the best I have had in a long time. The salad was unique and flavorful as all of their salads I have tried are. The main course was perfectly cooked salmon (cooked through, yet flaky with a crispy exterior)layered on a bed of mashed potatoes and asparagus spears topped off with a champagne cream sauce. You can't imagination the culinary satisfaction. The dessert was a rasberry rhubarb crisp with ice cream. Who knew rhubarb could bring your taste buds to tears. These monthly meals have been delightful and none of my dinner partners are embarrassed that we eat every last bite--nothing is left on the place, but our forks.

Very Enjoyable Experience
DESCRIPTION: I dined at Morimoto in late July, 2002. Overall, myself and the group that I was with had a great experience. We arrived at the restaurant at the time of our reservation and were immediately escorted to our table. Our waitress greeted us just after we had been seated and took our drink orders. She later answered several questions about the menu and was friendly. The only complaint I have about this restaurant, though, had to do with our waitress. Although friendly, and possessing a good understanding of the menu items, you could tell that she was not too thrilled about serving four patrons in their twenties. At the end of the night she received a 20% tip, but when we were originally seated at one of her tables, I am sure that she was thinking she would get much less, which was the reason she seemed less-than-thrilled to be serving us at first. I was much happier when she later ditched the attitude and became much more pleasant. I know that everyone in our party enjoyed their food thoroughly, but I can only elaborate on the dishes that I ordered. To start, I ordered the Warm Whitefish Carpaccio Appetizer. This dish was great! The presentation was outstanding and the pieces of fish, lightly fried in oil, were superb. By combining the remaining oil with the salad and edible Orchid Flower that were served, the entire plate was thoroughly enjoyed. For my entree, I ordered the Arctic Char. If you are unfamiliar with this fish, Arctic Char is somewhat familiar in taste to both Salmon and Trout. At Morimoto, this dish is pan roasted with maitaki mushrooms and served with a lobster sauce 'American.' Overall, this dish was also excellent. I wasn't too impressed with the presentation, and believe that the restaurant could improve in this area (in regards to this dish). But, I was very impressed with the taste. The sauce was the best part, and was the best lobster sauce that I have had at any restaurant. The fish was prepared very well, and I was surprised to discover that the skin of this fish can be enjoyed as well. Finally, the mushrooms provided an excellent match to both the fish and the sauce. I enjoyed this dish a lot, and would definitely order it again. Overall, this was one of the best dining experiences that I have ever had. Although expensive, you are paying for quality, and more-than-likely will not be disappointed in the experience you have dining at Morimoto. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

DESCRIPTION: Spankies is, without a doubt, my favorite place to eat and drink in Cookeville. There is always a new special to try. The portions are great. The service is fabulous. Spankies has great atmosphere and an ecclectic clientele. TN Tech University is nearby and there is always friendly, interesting conversation among the patrons.

DESCRIPTION: Spankies is the reference by which all others are judged. While enjoying a $50 dollar a plate dinner in DC I am always reminded that my Jack Daniels Filet at Spankies would be at least as good and cost half as much. <P>I was fortunate enough to have attended Tenn. Tech. and had the opportunity to eat Spankies regularly with my wife to be. The food and service were always top notch.

DESCRIPTION: The design of this restaurant is interesting, and it makes you think for a few seconds that this is the place to be. But this is before you know that is the place of the you can t . At the bar you can t move, in the restaurant area, you can t smoke, if you don t eat, you can t sit and be aware, if you are a foreigner you can t even be here, because this restaurant has decided to only accept people with American valid ID s. So if you still want to see this nice design, don t come with your friends from abroad because they are not invited, and be prepared to pay a lot, unless you think like me that these are enough reasons not to go to this restaurant.

A totally new and wonderful experience!
DESCRIPTION: I happily came across to this restaurant when i was going into Georgetown with a few international staffers from a YMCA children's camp this summer. As a foreigner to this Country (I am Chinese born in UK) I was warmly welcomed into this restaurant. What a sight to behold! The interior is as wonderful as the experience of dining in this establishment! The service made it truly an honour to be there. And I can't stress enough that the location was perfect. This is defnitely one of the best restaurants that i have ever dined in. I shall always fondly compare any other restaurants as a "Mie N Yu experience" something that is very hard to come across. Though I'm now back in UK after finishing my work in Maryland this September, I will be hoping that in the future, I will have the pleasure of coming back to this wonderful restaurant, but for those of you thinking of going there to try the cuisine, may I say to you: "Enjoy the Mie N Yu experience!"

DESCRIPTION: My friend has a very important position at GWU and I don't consider myself a schlub, but we were treated as fodder for the "Reject Room" at our first and last visit to Mie N Yu. I had called the day before, but when we arrived on a rainy Friday for our 6:00 P.M. reservations, the hostess could not locate my name. After several awkward minutes, the hostess acted like she was doing us a favor in finding us a table in an otherwise empty restaurant. We were escorted past the loitering wait staff and up one empty level after another. All the while, the hostess pointed out the decor and theme of each room, but reminded us, "But you're not sitting there." Finally, we reached what probably once served as an attic. The room was hot and stuffy and we only saw other non-wait staff when the manager brought people by on a tour of the facility. The overall decor of the restaurant was impressive but I can't say I remember the food as I was so upset at being seated in what people who have seen "Animal House" will know as the "Reject Room."

DESCRIPTION: 7pm, Friday night, Georgetown, hungry: passed by good looking Italian restaurant, earmarked the Vietnamese for next time, and then were caught in what can only be described as a scam... the shame is, we fell for it: the allure of a 'reservations only' experience, the exotic-looking entrance, and our own inability to settle on a gastronomic region all lured us to Mie N Yu- what a HUGE MISTAKE! Quite clearly, the restaurant itself can't make up it's own mind as to what to serve- a little Oriental, a touch of Asian, or Mediterranean, or was the banana-hummus designed to attract everyone from Latin to Indian to Arab? In the end it could only attract my growing suspicion that this place was indeed a sham- the kind of place that only needs your money once to realise a profit- no need to cultivate return guests (they won't come), just charge more than the bottle per glass of wine, $10 an appetizer, and the utilities/wages to customer spending ratio will always work in your favor... the naan was store-bought, the plantain chips indeed flash-fried, but somewhere in Escondido, California, and the hummus itself, well left uneaten in the bowl; next up, the vegetarian collection- two of the minutest skewers of vegetables I ve ever seen, egg-rolls from frozen (think I passed up on the same ones in Shoppers the other day), and a red-rice mixture as bland as the overly-enthusiastic server was not- his loud remark in support of our choice of wild mushroom ragout as an accompaniment sealed the deal- he either hadn t eaten it himself or had been coached into perpetuating the myth that the chef was not mingling with diners but actually in the kitchen and was creating our repast from scratch (in fact as the waiters all wore black, his white, and obviously underused apron was very noticeable); dessert , he asked, ignoring the fact that virtually everything served remained picked at but not eaten, sure , I said to my wife, now thinking of which Ben and Jerry s flavor would somehow cleanse my already confused and now thoroughly disgusted palate, but as we got up to leave, the ransom- $75 for our coats, had to be paid in order to escape the lingering doubts about my ability to make rational decisions- if you actually paid $5/gallon for gas a few months ago, have failed to walk away from the McStarbucksing of coffee, or truly believe that chow mein is Chinese food, you should eat here.
