DESCRIPTION: With hot dogs named "the Bittany Spears" and "the Elvis", how could you go wrong? Located in West Roscoe Village, this unassuming little hotdog stand might not stand out at first, but the long line SHOULD tell you that you are getting a quality dog. And don't be afraid to try the special. My recent fave was the roasted pork with jalepeno (yum). They also play the best music to top off your dining experience.

Fast Becoming An Infamous Chicago Venue
DESCRIPTION: The hot dog in Chicago cuisine is very important, and Doug has a great thing going here: FOOD: The regular menu provides good standard items (hot dog, Polish, bratwust, Italian, even a very spicy Andouille sausage). The daily specials have a wide range; I have seen (and tried) lamb, ostrich, rattlesnake, alligator, and kangaroo! Specials posted daily on www.hotdougs.com. Toppings on specials can be exotic (like mango salsa), and on request he will perform the ultimate Chicago taboo and put ketchup on your hot dog (hey, it's your order!). French fries are thick-cut, and large size means just that. Skinny fries cooked in rendered duck fat are available on Fridays and Saturdays. AMBIENCE: Not stodgy, not hip, just plain cool. Interesting posters and artifacts from The Chicago Cubs, Elvis, and Madonna, to name a few. Collectible hot dog oddities at the front counter. Overhead music has generally been '60s garage, new wave, or punk, though certain holidays will take exception (e.g. Elvis' birth/death). Doug is one of the most personable people in town, and if he's not swamped, he'll chat it up with you. It's not the biggest place and can get real busy at times, but a little patience will always get you a seat. This isn't supposed to be a free ad for Hot Doug's. The place is good. Real good. I hear it mentioned in the same company as Superdawg and other iconic Chicago hot dog venues. Even separate from the hype of exotic items, his straight hot dog is just as good or better than many places. Hopefully, he's not going anywhere any time soon. Hot Doug's, people.
