Food Well Prepared with Attitude
DESCRIPTION: We don't get downtown Springfield very often but no matter what season and no matter whether lunch or dinner a meal at Augie's will be a fine choice. They change their menu fairly often to feature fresh veggies and fresh fish. We have never had a bad meal at our table, no matter how many people are eating. The salads, appitizers, main courses are always excellent, unusually well prepared and ample in serving size.

RECOMMENDED DISHES : Any fresh fish is excellent. The crabcakes are the best we've had - NY to San Francisco, Florida to Canada.

Bad
DESCRIPTION: Wine proportions unbelievably small. Half of a small wine glass, if that. Rack of Lamb sliced into very thin chops and fatty. Fish over done and dry. Caesar Salad great but characteristically small, as is the rest of their dishes it seems.

Higher Class Than Expected
DESCRIPTION: My husband and I sampled their black bean cake at Taste of Springfield, and loved it. We then went to eat there another night, and were seriously underdressed (jeans), ignored, and felt out of place. I wouldn't have guessed from their item selection at the Taste that it would have been a higher class restaurant than we're used to. Also, as vegetarians, our food selection was mostly limited to the appetizer menu.

Good ol' comfort food
DESCRIPTION: This is a great place to eat if you are shopping on the North Michigan Ave strip, or live in the Streeterville / Gold Coast neighborhood. It specializes in comfort food - roast chicken, roast beef, meat loaf, mac and cheese, as well as other fare. Fair wine list, and great martinis are also served up. Watch for the daily specials. They are right about the "kid friendly" aspect of it. However, you will also see many of the older locals there, too.

DESCRIPTION: This two-level bistro has a full bar and as expected an excellent wine selection. The American-style menu is sure to suit any taste. Excellent service, a great "date" restaurant.
