Sushi Umi is the best in the Midwest
DESCRIPTION: Food As my friend recommended I tried the sauteed scallops, chawanmushi (egg custard soup) and takoyaki (octopus hush puppies). The scallops were meaty, buttery and hid just the right sear on the outside, in a delectable sauce balanced by tender wild greens. The takoyaki was drizzled with two sauces and had a variety of pleasant texures, from cakey, to meaty, to crisp. The egg custard is the best I've had in the Midwest, broth was perfectly delicate and complete with a ginko nut. ALl the food was brought out piping hot with beautiful presentation. The restaurant itself is adorably decorated by the owner, with a whimsical childlike asian charm, a new twist to the usual dimly lit formal sushi bars I'm used to. It also has the welcome and warmth that family owned business brings.

Fine for sushi...
DESCRIPTION: but not as good as <I>another sushi place</I>. Sometimes my husband and I go here, though, because the ambience is nice--low lighting, quiet atmosphere--more romantic than <I>another sushi place</I>. Overall, I'd say the quality of food is lower, though--although the service has been good.

Great Sushi
DESCRIPTION: I have eaten at sushi restaurants all over the United States and I have to say that Mikado is one of my favs. The crab in the california rolls is always fresh and the fish tastes like it was flown in that day. I am a big fan of Mikado and I personally recommend the tuna rolls. The service has always been great as well. Mikado is a must for any sushi lover.

Not fresh
DESCRIPTION: I am from a city that has the best sushi in the country. I went to Mikado and it's not fresh--and it's overpriced. Even though they have a variety of different rolls, the quality and price you receive is not up to par.

Mikado provide bad service and food
DESCRIPTION: The restaurant is always understaffed, so customers wait forever to be serviced. What's worse is that the manager and service totally disrespect customers. I don't recommend the restaurant to anyone.

skip the sushi
DESCRIPTION: The quality of fish is sub-par --skip the sushi (it is the midwest afterall, save your sushi outings for places on the coast). The regular menu is really enjoyable though - good japaenese food. The service can be slow, but I enjoy the extra time to talk with my spouse (and they're always friendly, just understaffed I think). Choose one of the combination dinners - LOTS of food and the variety is fun. When you're being seated, ask to be seated on the right side of the restaurant. The lighting is more dim and the tables are arranged in nooks and crannies that make for a more pleasant dining experience. The left side of the restaurant is very open and has just a touch of a cafeteria feel.

New sushi place in town
DESCRIPTION: Excellent sushi, on par or better compared to Mikado and Domo. Tempura is the only item that is not so great. Quite noisy unless you are in one of the private rooms.
