Downtown Dining Moves to the South Shore
DESCRIPTION: Sintra is an amazing dining experience. The food rivals that of the top restaurants downtown without the outrageous prices and hassle of finding a parking spot. The wait staff is knowledgeable, personable, and attentive without being overbearing. The open kitchen and small dining room creates the restaurant s warm and inviting ambiance. Each of Chef Jenkins dishes brings out the flavor and essence of every ingredient used; no dish was too heavy or overwhelming. Without a doubt, I will be returning to Sintra.

Making This Place My Own

Rude Mannered Waitress
DESCRIPTION: At the beginning she didn t bring the drink I ordered (before dinner) and took 30 minutes to take the order. She brought the check before asking me with rude manners if I wanted dessert, didn t apologize. She spent most of the time in a big conversation with the waiter and didn t look to the table. Very good food but I m sorry, I m not going back until they get rid of that waitress.

Tremendous Experience
DESCRIPTION: I surprised my fiancee, who is Portuguese, by bringing her to Sintra for a special dinner. And what a great experience we had! Perfection
DESCRIPTION: It is always a treat when we have dinner at Sintra. We had dinner there this past Saturday evening and we were just in time for the menu changes for the fall months. Our starters and entrees were fantastic. There was no way we were passing the desserts, so ofcourse we indulged. I also have to say that the Sangria they have is the best I have ever tasted. A true jewel of the South Shore, if only they would open one in the Worcester area, I would be in heaven.

A Welcome Fine Dining Find
DESCRIPTION: A resaurant of this caliber in the quiet suburban town of Braintree was an exciting find for my wife and me. Sintra has all the taste and style of any chef-centric restaurant in Boston, without the expense and pretense. I found it by Googling the ChefMoz and Chowhound reviews, and then checked out their menu at www.sintrarestaurant.com. Around these parts I expect to find chain, old school Italian, and seafood restaurants. Nothing subtle or adventurous. So their menu made Sintra a must-try. I brought my wife for her birthday, and our meal was all we had hoped it would be. The crispy skin on my rustic glazed duck was pure meat-candy, and my wife's sweet potato ravioli app. was light, yet complex and wonderfully balanced. We can't wait to return.

DESCRIPTION: An outstanding Portugese-Spanish-Italian spot. Great food, warm, friendly service and cozy decor make this a fantastic place. The food is all interesting and perfectly cooked. This is a major eating experience! Try the seafood tapas for two and the meat and cheese plate for two (great if you have four people because you wouldn't want to miss either.) The lamb is out of this world. The wines are also intesting - many excellent Portugese and Spanish choices, but be sure to ask the staff for their recommendations.

DESCRIPTION: While the service was good, food quality was very poor. I honestly had the worst seafood dish here in almost 50 years of restaurant eating. Not only was the Portuguese rice and seafood dish not tasty, it was overwhelmingly fishy, and the mussels were old and smelly. To add insult to injury, the rice was undercooked, and I ended up getting sick from the whole experience. You can figure the rest out. My partner's Caesar Salad was tasteless, but at least he didn't end up spending the night in the bathroom

Love it!
DESCRIPTION: I live in Manhattan and frequently come to D.C. to visit family that lives in Manassas. Last weekend, they took me to see Old Town Manassas and brought me to Carmello's. I loved the chicken breast which was topped with crabmeat melted mozzarella. We also shared the house appetizer- I really loved the mushroom caps and the calamari. Much better than any chain restaurant I have visited in Manassas. Great place for an intimate dinner and our waitress was extremely friendly and attentive. Next time I'm in town I will make the suggestion to go back!

My all-time favorite place to eat
DESCRIPTION: Iberia really is the best restaurant in the area, by far. I honestly don't know how they make any profit on their lunches. The lunch portions are HUGE, and salad/bread are included. You will not be able to eat all the food you get at this place unless you're Paul Bunyon. Their seafood dishes are especially good, as are the roasted meats and rodizio. The vegtables are never your typical soggy, dull restaurant fare - but are usually creatively prepared with a unique sauce or otherwise. I give this place 5 stars!

Jersey's best Portugese Restaurant
DESCRIPTION: The first time I went to Iberia was in December of 2002. I live in Honolulu, and was visiting family. The food was great, as was the service. The waiters were very distinguished, polite and totally attententive to my every whim. All I had to do was raise my eyes, and one was there. I am very weight conscious, however, not that night. If it was not for the bad company that brought me to this fine restaurant, it would have been the highlight of my vacation! Upon leaving (far too soon) Our waiter kissed me on the hand and hoped that I would return before returning to Hawaii. And this was after he'd received his tip! Suddenly, NJ didn't seem so cold anymore. I returned two weeks later with my cousin from New Rochelle, NY. With my wonderful escort, it was the best time spent in NJ. I returned in 2005, and they remembered me! I tasted a myriad of everything . The seafood was the freshest I'd ever eaten, and the various meats melt in your mouth. I am returning in March to NJ on business, but my first stop will be Iberia. This time, my flight will originate in Canberra, Australia, and I'll be thinking of their king crab legs all the way!

Great Rodizio - Where's the salad?
DESCRIPTION: I go there for the Rodizio, which is terrific. Make the effort to sit near the kitchen so you get the meat when it's hot. (Not in the back dining room where the meat can get cold). So here's what's stupid... For 4 people, you get the a small bowl of salad, enough for 2. They want another $4 for another bowl of salad. Why can't you get unlimited salad if their going to give you unlimited rodizio? By the way, get the Portugese potatoes only.

Fresh Seafood and Excellent Service
DESCRIPTION: At a Family gathering, we ordered the following dishes: stuffed lobster tails in which the stuffing was too salty; king crab legs which was served with only 1 and a half legs ($26); beefsteak with shrimps, very good; chilean sea bass, very good; veal with bananas in madiera sauce, the veal could have been somewhat more tender; and the broiled seafood combination, very good. The sangria needed a bit more brandy as it was a little on the weak side. For an Ironbound restaurant, we thought the bill was too pricey. Parking across the street. Excellent service! Fresh seafood. Only complaint was the experience was too expensive

Good Newark Iberian with a PLUS
DESCRIPTION: Along with the typical (and good) Newark Iberian Menu of Seafood, Paella, Mariscada, etc. There is a huge selection of grilled meats and seafood. But the reason most people are here is the "Rodizio"... Brazilian-style rotisserie meats... lots of selection... all you can eat... and cheap! Service is exceptional, and it's a pretty place to top it off! Secure off-street parking (not in the best area of Newark, but worth the journey!)

One of the best
DESCRIPTION: Of all the Portuguese restuarants in this area, Fernandes is certainly one of the best. First, the place is very, very nice. Really nice decor, beautiful atmosphere... just a very cool place. Second, the staff goes out of their way to make you feel like a VIP. Third, the food is awesome. Whether you're ordering a traditional Portuguese dish, or Brazilian Rodizio, or even a more americanized meal, everything is excellent. And, despite what the person before me wrote, this is NOT in a bad area. Granted, it's outside the Ironbound, and isn't as pleasant as driving down Ferry Street, but it certainly is NOT a "bad" area.

My favorite restaurant in the area
DESCRIPTION: This is definitely the best restaurant in the area for Brazilian-style barbecue. I personally like the churrasco a Fernandes which is a huge plate of all different types of meat. Almost like a Rodizio, except that the quantity is limited and you can take the leftover home afterwards. My husband and I are good eaters, and we have yet to finish all the meat they bring for one person! For us, it's a great deal because we share the food, and we still have leftovers. Their rodizios are great, but I can't eat that much meat. It's kind of a waste of money for me. The only reason I don't give a full 5 stars is because the restaurant does not offer a non-smoking area. We try to go on weekdays when it's not that crowded, and we ask to be seated away from people who are smoking. The place is big enough to offer a non-smoking area. I guess the owner(s) must be a smoker. I did have a very unpleasant dinner when the table next to us was full of smokers. I agree that the location is in a bad area. Not the worst area in Newark, but certainly not safe. Just be cautious driving there. But once you're in the parking lot, you're fine. It's worth the travel.

DESCRIPTION: This is the best Portuguese Restaurant in the Ironbound by far! Filet Mignon is just outstanding as is the seafood, and nothing beats the rodizio. Sangria is awesome as well, and you are never rushed. We sat from 8PM 'til after midnight! As far as location, just because it's Newark doesn't make it a 'bad' area. There is valet parking.

DESCRIPTION: I've only been to Iberia Penninsula before and I wasn't that impressed. Ferdandez was great! We were greeted with a smile from the hosts and bartenders when we walked through the door. All of us, ages 12 and up, had a great time. Delicious food. The service was excellent. I also would prefer non smoking areas, and even though people around us were smoking, it was not a problem. The restaurant probably has an excellent ventilation system! Can't wait to go back!

Best in Town
DESCRIPTION: Fernandes is absolutely a fantastic place to go. Try their sangria! I have been there about 8 times and was never disappointed. The place is nicely decorated, and you don't feel ignored or unimportant. I have had both the rodizio and also steak and fish dishes (which I couldn't finish) and everything was done to perfection. If you have kids there is plenty of non-traditional items to choose from.

Best food on the Island
DESCRIPTION: This Portuguese family run restaurant serves local and Portugese dishes 6 days a week - has the best breakfast pancakes on the island and the kalbi is second to none. Service is down home friendly and the restaurant is clean, well lit and you are made to feel like ohana (family) as soon as you walk in the door. If you're lucky MaryLou the owner made one of her Pistacchio Banana Creme pies that day. Her husband Dan is a master koa wood bowl turner and you can shop after eating during the day for some beautiful Koa wood bowls to remind you of your visit.

Intimate and Tasty
DESCRIPTION: Atasca has a reputation as the best Portuguese in greater Boston, and the food certainly shown on a recent visit. A seafood stew held generous helpings of delicately flavored clams and mussels. An appetizer (or you could go for the appetizers as Tapas) of fresh Portuguese cheese and tomatoes was seasonal, and tasted like Mozzarella with a twist. My chicken cutlets were similar to an Italian chicken marsala, nice but unremarkable, but it came with a great risotto. Service, however, was quite slow given that it was a half-empty Sunday night.

Outstanding Spanish & Portugese Cuisine!
DESCRIPTION: Spains offer the most authentic Spanish and Portugese cuisine ever in central Ohio. We have frequented Spain when they first arrived in Columbus located on Sullivant Avenue. DESCRIPTION: This unsuspecting find offers the best Paella in the state. Steaks and seafood are both top quality in flavor and freshness and Chef Andres knows what he is doing. Friendly staff and great sangria make for a 5/5 experience. Don't forget to save room for desert.

Wonderful Restaurant in Odd setting
DESCRIPTION: Even though this restaurant is in a strip mall you would never know it by the ambiance and food. The staff is outstanding and very attentive. The price is reasonable and the staff is always willing to make recommendation. Always worth the drive.

Absolutely the best!
DESCRIPTION: We have been eating at this restaurant since the mid '80s and love it. The food is well prepared and the presentation is excellent. The ambiance is superb and the staff is above reproach. The service can't be beat and everyone is so nice and attentive to your every need. My entire extended family and various members eat here numberous time each month. As the old saying goes, "try it you will like it".

A Pleasant Surprise!
DESCRIPTION: My family moved to Kemp Mill in 1959 - we were the first to buy a home there. I don't remember when this restaurant opened, but I ate there in 1973 - a couple of months before my daughter was born - and then, for some reason, did not go back until this past November, when we took her - and her fiance - there for her birthday dinner. We were so impressed and just loved the food, the service, everything. Since then, we've gone back several times and brought others with us, and it has been unanimous that this restaurant's food and service is outstanding. Serene continental dining
DESCRIPTION: Tucked into quiet strip mall that is itself tucked into a residential neighborhood, Nova Europa always gives one a sense of having "discovered" it, even if one is a regular. Nicely decorated (I believe the site was once a posh French restaurant) with wood paneling and good copies of French impressionist paintings, the proprietors honor their guests with gracious manners, white nappery, and quiet service. [Unfortunately, 21st century patrons don't always return the favor to the proprietors or to other guests, frequently showing up dressed too casually.] Many customers are locals--very local, since it is walkable to the Kemp Mill neighborhood--who take advantage of specials; busiest dining hours are the early ones. As a non-cooking bachelor, I frequently take business guests, visitors, or friends here for dinner. For some reason, the proprietors are shy about putting forward Portuguese specialities, offering up primarily Continental oldies. As a result, one may have to ask even for cod if one is looking for a preparation beyond the one usually on the menu, despite the fact that bacalhau is the Portuguese "national dish." [It is said in Portugal "there are 365 ways to prepare bacalhau."] Bacalhau in Portuguese cuisine is normally prepared from dried, salted cod; when consumed, it is not especially salty, unless wrongly made. Some Portuguese dishes can be had by ordering ahead [e.g., bacalhau braz]; others by ordering ahead for parties of 4 or more [ask them to prepare their version of feijoada, the Brazilian national dish; they omit the exotic variety meats that might deter the squeamish in Brazilian restaurants]. Caldeirada--a 'cauldron' of seafood--is my favorite, but I usually ask for it with potatoes versus pasta, as the noodles invariably splash the stew's succulent juices onto my shirt-front or tie. Pork and clams (Carne Alentejana) is another favorite, as is filet mignon. Ask for a Portuguese wine to accompany your meal. The prices are moderate for the very fine ambiance and equally fine service and the very good food; if one has a coupon, or dines early, a meal here is a real "deal.
