Beware of flying shrimp!!
DESCRIPTION: I love House of Japan, but after my visit last night, I can't say that I will be going back anytime soon. Apparently the chefs find it amusing to fling steaming hot shrimp tails across the restaurant at each other while they are cooking. During my dining experience last night with my husband and two children, I was hit not once, but TWICE with an airborne shrimp tail. The first one hit me in the side of the head and nailed the man sitting behind me. We both acted confused and brushed it off as not being a big deal. Before I was able to pick up my fork, another high-flying shrimp tail smacked me in my left eye, leaving a spot of soy sauce on my eye. I was mortified, but my emotions quickly turned to anger as I saw that the guilty chef found it amusing, as did the people at his table. No one came over to apologize to me. I approached the small lady racing around the restaurant and told her that I would not be paying for my meal, to which she said "Ok. I told them not to do that anymore." Word to the wise, this is not a water ride...this is a restaurant that is anything but cheap. If I'm going to dine there, I don't want to have to worry about dodging flying shrimp while I eat. My meal was taken care of, but I was left to pay for the rest of my family. To me, that was as disrespectful as being hit with the shrimp. If there was a corporate office I would certainly make a complaint about this.

Great food at great prices!
DESCRIPTION: Having dined at The Landing on several occasions, I can tell you that you can't get a better moderately priced meal anywhere on the northshore of the Lake. All of the menu items are prepared fresh at the time of order.

DESCRIPTION: The food was great. You feel like everyone in the place has known you for years. The prices were great for the amount of food served. After eating there a few times, it's high on my "where to go" list.

Good place to eat
DESCRIPTION: I have eaten here often. I think the food if marvelous. Don't think I have ever had a bad meal here. Truly worth the visit if you are in the area. Excellent steak.

Great restaurant for great tastes
DESCRIPTION: Nice place, great food. Totally new. Very clean and orderly. I really had a great meal at Ivey's Steakhouse & Grill. I highly reccommend it to anyone passing through Hanceville or going to college there.

DESCRIPTION: While at a basketball tournament myself and our entire team and parents ate at the Ponderosa at the mall in town. The buffet was one of the worst ever. Even the desserts tasted like they had sat for a week. There was such a small variety that we all left hungry and sick from what we tried to eat. We have eaten at other ones and been happy but due to this visit it will be our last.

Not the best
DESCRIPTION: The food was disgraceful. The service was deplorable. The staff ignored tables (the few that were full). No locals were eating at the steakhouse, when I inquired they said most of their business is from travelers staying at the next door hotels. The locals obviously smartened up to the fact the food is bad at best. The food took forever to get to the table even though only a few tables were filled. The steak was tough. The special enchiladas were dry and chewy.

Past Glory
DESCRIPTION: I'm a local that used to enjoy this restaurant. In a fit of pique at many of the restaurant's employees the owners fired everyone on the spot and closed its doors for several months. Upon re-opening the food and service never returned to their former quality. As the previous review said, we locals tried it again (once). The steaks were poorly cooked and the other dishes were equally uninspired. The owners need a full re-vamp (again) and a re-grand opening if they ever want to the locals back.

Not Worth It
DESCRIPTION: My husband and I stayed at the Econo Lodge, which is nearby. I had the 8 oz. New York strip and my husband had prime rib. Mine was good and cooked correctly, but my husband wasn't too happy with his. On top of that, the price for our meals did not match what was on the table. We spent almost $50, and the food definitely was NOT worth it.

Never again!
DESCRIPTION: I stayed at a nearby hotel for business and went in to the Red Barn. I ordered Fried Chicken and they brought out chicken fried steak. After waiting 20 minutes for my correct meal, I started eating my chicken and discovered that it was entirely frozen on the inside. I wasn't charged for anything but the management did not apologize and was not too concerned. Our waiter was new and he was very nice.

Maybe I'm getting old, but...
DESCRIPTION: Years ago (18 to be exact) we visited SC for 2 mo/yr over a 5 year period and would often eat here. Last month I returned and found the luster gone. The salad bar had miserly plates, the steak was small and uninvitingly presented, but tender, and the staff, while polite, was clearly confused about their duties. I do not think it is as bad as some of the other reviewers, but oh, for the good ol days!

The rumor is.......
DESCRIPTION: that there is a new manager for both the Drifter and the Red Barn and both places are going to do better. Have definitely seen and improvement at the Barn. Some people have told me that their steak at the Barn was good. Since I'm kind of gun shy, we'll see. They started serving breakfast here and it has gone from ok to not so ok. "Our breakfasts are made to order", riiight. Pre-cooked bacon and warmed over hash browns. (If you remember to order them, otherwise you get breakfast potoatoes: deep fried and frozen) When are they going to clean this place? I'd be willing to bet that the light globes on the wagon wheel style chandeliers have not bene dusted in two years. And the area up by the kitchen is sooo bad. There are 30-year-old grease stains on all the woodwork and the racks for the glasses are enough to make you wonder. There is some metal thing inside the kitchen, easily visible from the dining room, that has greasy dust waving in the breeze. The booths should have been thrown out 30 years ago and what is it with that first booth? You would think that they are using it for an office. Junked up pig sty is what it presents to the public.

Bad Service. Bad Food. Bad Manager.
DESCRIPTION: This was the worst experience I've had in ages. The server was terrible. She took 20 minutes to get to our table. Took both our drink order and food order and left. She didn't bring our drinks until 10 minutes after she took the order. She messed up every order at our table. The food was cold, not cooked as ordered or not at all what was ordered. I do not recommend Sagebrush at all. We had a terrible experience.

poor service
DESCRIPTION: My family and I went to the Sagebrush in Monroe, nc Saturday night. We were very disappointed with the service. First of all it took forever to get a table. We were promised 45min, but it took longer. This part we can understand but the waitress we had was terribe. It was my mother's birthday and we wanted to have her sung to.. Well after waiting and waiting we got up , asked the hostess for our check and left. No one apoligized or even acted like they cared.. The 15%was included in the check and I think that it is wrong to do this .. A tip should be for good service!!!! The waitress knew her tip was included and she didn't care.. This is not the first time this has happened but it will be the last time we go to the Sagebrush.

Good food, good service
DESCRIPTION: My son and husband have both been there with me, and we all are in agreement the food was very good. The atmosphere is casual, with a Texas Theme: Country music stars pictures on the walls and peanut shells on the floors, with upbeat country music playing in the background. The booths were roomy enough for two to sit comfortably side by side - even with jackets, and even a larger person to fit easily. The service was just right - Friendly, but not in your face all night. The food was brought out in a timely manner, and though we did have to wait for a while to be seated, it was a new restaurant at the time, and everyone wanted to try it out. The price was well within reason for the area ($10-20/entree), which is kind of high usually. I liked this place very much, and it was well worth the money, which is Not always the case with some of the higher priced restaurants in the area.

Decent food; great service; cheap, but very noisy
DESCRIPTION: Very casual atmosphere; throw your peanut shells on the floor; toss back a couple of cold ones (good selection of beers on tap and bottled) with your friends at the bar. The food is very decent, if you don't expect too much (with a name like Texas Roadhouse...you're certainly not expecting the Ritz?!), the service is great, but sometimes the waitstaff can "hover" too much (better than ignoring you?); it's a fun atmosphere, but all the birthday celebrations, yelling, loud music and line dancing can be much too loud. If you want to have a conversation, don't go here. This would be a great place for a first date.
