Awesome Tapas

Nice Change
DESCRIPTION: Finally a cool bar and lounge that has personality and not a Reston Town Center feel. The Bar has a warm feel and the dining room is a nice change from the previous Il Cigno. Can't wait till the patio opens! I think their target market is 25-45 crowds...It will rock!

What happened?
DESCRIPTION: It had been a long time since I ventured to the BD complex to enjoy what used to be an excellent restaurant -- Cafe Madrid. Obviously, things had changed since I was last there. Despite a reservation, service was extremely slow and rude. I seldom enjoy wait staff hovering over me, but I would like the opportunity to purchase a drink within 20 minutes of arrival. Humorously, at one point, a waiter brought a second round of salads. There were four of us, he brought three. Since we had just finished the same salad only minutes ago, we declined this rerun saying "we just finished this." He replied with "well you can eat it again," turned and gestured humorously to the other patrons. While I love the comedy of John Cleese, I do not enjoy taking part in a Faulty Tower's comedic sketch. Perhaps the better dining experience at Cafe Madrid is to stick solely to their tapas menu. (I did enjoy the mushrooms and clams, but not as much as in previous dining experiences.) On the night of out visit, there were no specials and we ordered 4 of their entr es. The duck was served in a pear reduction which was good, but not overly exciting. A similar treatment was given to the pork with a port reduction. The Lamb shank was disappointing. It was flavorless, more well done than is desirable, and swam through a plate of rather ordinary gravy. I was pleased to see the new baby potatoes dusted with tarragon - an herb underutilized in my mind The final straw occurred when I ordered another bottle of wine (which was excellently recommended by the hostess/owner.) However, when this second bottle arrived, it was not the same vintage (a 2002 rather than a 1998). When confronted the young waiter stated that he couldn t find that one and that this one was "fresher." Please, if you're going to serve expensive wines and list their vintage on the menu, please educate the staff. Will I return to Cafe Madrid? It had always been one of my favorite summer dining locations, and hopefully this experience was an anomaly. Perhaps when the days are again long, I will dare order a variety of Tapas on the patio. Until then...

DESCRIPTION: From entrance to exit, all was fine. Candlelight everywhere, friendly, smiling faces - a good sign. Eat at the bar or table, you can eat light to full. Drinks - fabulous.Excellent service from bartender to servers; even the busboys have charisma! Food is perfectly described, presented, and can't wait to try the next thing! Music and ambiance is eclectic, inspiring, intoxicating. Every night is a new experience -- love this place! PS, they invented the Euphoria Martini!

Pasquale's is Awesome!
DESCRIPTION: This is hands down the best restaurant in Waynesville. The food is awesome. The specials from the grill during the summer are incredible. I love to sit outside in the evenings in listen to music and smell the food on the grill. The waitresses are attentive, and if you're lucky the owner (really nice guy) might come over and chat with you. Highly recommend it!

Love this quaint place!
DESCRIPTION: This is a small and intimate wine bar with a great menu. My husband and I have been there three times in the past 6 months and were never disappointed. The breads and pate's are excellent. The menu changes with the availability of fresh fish and meats. We had Copper River salmon from Alaska that was fabulous. There is also a shop located behind the dining area which sells food products.

Don't waste your time!
DESCRIPTION: We recently visited the Cuvee in Fredericksburg after reading an article in the Dallas paper and it was the biggest dinning disappointment. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were taken to the bar where we had to wait 15 minutes to get a glass of wine. Once we were served, we were never check on to see if we needed anything else. We finally realized that the reason that we couldn t get any service is because the Manager/Owner has taken it upon himself to do everything from hostess, bartender, wait and bus tables, and in between all of that running around, book phone reservations. I wish that I could tell you about the food but we never had a chance nor will we ever have a chance to comment.

Overrated
DESCRIPTION: My husband and I were hoping for a lovely romantic little dinner. We were disappointed. We ordered 3 of the tapas, the frites with aioli, duck rillettes, and pork chops. The frites were good, the aioli not so much. The duck rillettes were absolutely flavorless and the leather on my shoes was more tender than the pork chops. The sauce that accompanied the chops was very good. The prices were high even if the food had been great. The selection of beers was outstanding, but again the prices were quite high. We didn't stay for dessert.

What happened to A Cote?
DESCRIPTION: Since it opened several years ago, A Cote has served as a hip, late-night tapas locale with difficult parking and long waits, but ALWAYS worth the frustration. Not so anymore. What happened? The Mark Becker design still maintains its "be cool" atmosphere, and the bar and wine list are still terrific, but all else disappoints. The mussels with Pernod are anorexic, the deserts are floppy and/or dry, the steak overdone, and the pommes frites that may as well be made from frozen potatoes come with an aioli that is DOA. The sad thing is, these dishes used to be so GOOD! (One exception: the flatbreads are still good). Must we trek to Cesar in Berkeley to be fed small plates? Perhaps the efforts to revive Citron, next store and owned by the same restauranteurs, has left A Cote without the attention it needs. But until more attention is paid, A Cote will fail today when compared to memories of past meals, and leave loyal diners and newcomers as lukewarm as their panna cotta.

Wine Spectator Award?
DESCRIPTION: One would think that a restaurant with a Wine Spectator award for its wine list would know have some rudimentary knowledge of wine service. All the red wine is baked -- served at least 10 dedgree too warm -- and precludes having a civilized meal. I suppose the good news is that talented chef Jose Andres has an unlimited supply of red wine reduction sauce.
