DESCRIPTION: I am Indian, and I've been to Kashmir twice. This is not real Indian food, and don't make your opinion on Indian food based on this restaurant. The atmosphere is really depressing and food is not cooked (it is raw). The food they serve seems like the leftovers from what they ate at home. If you go alone and even if all the trays were empty, they would not refill it. Hospitality wise they are very hostile. Very bad food, Very little food, and hostile hosts. Stay away.

WHAT??? I LOVE Kashmir
DESCRIPTION: Have been going to this restaurant since '96 while attending undergrad at UK. I live about 45 minutes from Lex, but try to eat there every couple of months. Love the menu and food. Try the cheese nan and mushroom chicken. I have never been disappointed. However, I do not eat the buffet, not enough choices for me, but know many who love it.

Mr. Hsiung Yao (Mr. 'Harrison') Makes Dining Experience Exceptional!
DESCRIPTION: Our group has dined at Lexington, Kentucky's Asian Wind for about two years, now. First, and foremost, is the head-waiter (officially, or not), Mr. Hsiung Yao, who calls himself 'Harrison'. (Interestingly enough, Asian Wind's owner is referred to as 'George'. (George / Harrison -- Get it?) At any rate, Mr. Harrison is the primary reason to visit Asian Wind! Yes, the food is beyond belief! However, Mr. Harrison adds the character you require to experience the true, unbelievable delight of oriental dining at its best! Asian Wind is a most singular opportunity to lose yourself in Asian dining. Regardless of what you order, you will be amazed! If you are particularly hungry, ask for the dinner menu. It will cost you more, but you will find yourself overstuffed! I particularly recommend the Kwachik hot & sour soup for two (2)! The Kwachik is a soy-based meat substitute which is supplied from Westerville, Ohio, and tastes like God Almighty must have made it! There is a companion version called Kwabif, which is a soy-based replacement for actual beef. If you prefer seafood (the real thing), then I suggest you order any of their excellent shrimp dishes. You will walk away in a state of questionably-legal euphoria.

DESCRIPTION: I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves different, tasty Chinese food. I am not a vegetarian, but tried the Kwachik and it was so good, I now get it every time I go! I usually try different dishes, so it is hard to give a recommended dish, but I always either get the crab ragoon or a bowl of hot-and-sour soup to start off with. They are both excellent! Nothing I have ever eaten there has tasted bad - you can't go wrong with Wind!

DESCRIPTION: I love Natasha s. My wallet will tell a different story. The lunch buffet is a wonderful spread of tantalizing and comforting concoctions. The stews will never disappoint nor will the addicting garlicky salad dressing. There are many spreads, salads, and sides to choose from ranging from hummus to potato salad. The Midnight Chicken and Gypsy Stew are not to be missed. Coffee and tea is another great Natasha s offering. The sadness hits when you find your small plate not big enough to fill with all the choices presented. The price of the buffet is judged on the weight of your food; it is not an all-you-can-eat buffet. I find this a rather heartbreaking way of controlling the diner s pocketbook, appetite, and options. On a day when you need to save money, but want great buffet-style Mediterranean food, head over to The Oasis in Chevy Chase. The servers and counter workers are always very accommodating and helpful. The dinner menu is wonderful. Although, for someone who appreciates the eclectic Natasha s, I find it overpriced. It is hard to genuinely accept the diverse image it conveys when those that love that diversity can t afford the experience.

DESCRIPTION: I don't know who the person is who rated the other cajun place better than Bourbon N' Toulouse, but nothing could be further from the truth. One word comes to mind when I think of the other place (no need to mention the name of it) -- HACK! Bourbon N' Toulouse's food rocks, with a twist on Yats food. In a lot of ways, it may be better. The person who is making the food at B-'n'-T's has far more expericence with the Yats food than just about anyone else, and has added his own personal touch. Try both places, and I am sure you would agree.

DESCRIPTION: Both cajun places are great! Not sure what furious d was talking about when stating the person who cooks at B&T has more experience than the cook at Ya Ya's because the owner/cook for Ya Ya's was co-owner of Yats & worked for over 10 years learning the trade from Joe Vuskovich who started the 1st cajun fast food place in Lexington. Both of these cooks were taught by Joe V & I would not give the upper-hand to either one of them except to say Ya Ya's does have a bigger selection of sauces to choose from and they have two different locations.

I've had better at Waffle House
DESCRIPTION: New to Lexington, my wife and I heard rave reviews of Alfalfa. We decided to go there for a Sunday Brunch. We both agreed that it was the greasiest, lousiest food that we had been served in quite a while. I ordered an omelet and my wife had a phoenix salad. The omelet was tiny and swimming in grease from the poorly done "Alfalfries". My wife's salad was a $8 joke. We both felt like we had barely eaten anything when we left. Add to that the slow, poor service and the less than posh setting... we won't be going back ever. Maybe we had a bad experience, but it was the kind that I wouldn't care to repeat. Honestly, save your money and go to Waffle House.

Favorite place
DESCRIPTION: Alfalfa has a new home on Lexington's Main Street. It's still the same beloved food. The service, which suits me perfectly, can be an acquired taste if you prefer the Outback style adopted cheeriness. Alfalfa services is a combination of attentive, relaxed, and Bohemian. Don't be in a hurry. It's not that kind of place. Great dishes include cucumber soup, tomato bisque, Chicken Talese, Hoppin' John, vegetable crepes, almost any salmon or trout preparation (usually there's one each day.) Distinctive Alfalfa standards includ Alfalfa lasagna, the avocado grill sandwich, the cabbage based house salad, and the homemade miso dressing. Desserts are extraordinary, particularly the cheesecakes, Italian Cream cake, and chocolate chip pecan (or walnut) pie. Good straightforward wines and beers, or try the spiced iced tea or the iced blackberry tea. And don't forget the classic cinnamon coffee or cinnamon decaf for dessert. Lunch ordering system is not ideal -- go for dinner.

DESCRIPTION: I go to Alfalfa's at least once a week, sometimes more for lunch. The food is usually excellent and the service is okay, not excellent. Best Red Beans & Rice Ever
DESCRIPTION: I was brought (kicking and screaming) to this unknown hole-in-the-wall place when I was in school and the restaurant was on South Limestone. Wow, was I ever impressed! The portions are huge and the flavors are just right, every time! I go every chance I get. Don't let the "veggie" label fool you - the meat dishes are yummy, too! I always add some tobasco to the R-B-R and it makes my tastebuds sing! Excellent service and affordable, too. The new location has lost some ambiance (almost too tidy), but still A-1 in my book.

Great Beer and Pizza
DESCRIPTION: My girlfriend and I have been to Mellow Mushroom twice in the last month and each time we enjoyed a great meal. There is a great selection of eclectic pizzas, as well as a variety of micro-brewed beers that really hit the spot. The first time the service was perfect, and the second time, one of our pizzas took over 30 minutes longer than it should have...so they gave it to us for free. I love this place and talking about it has made me decide to go there tonight.

Bad Experience
DESCRIPTION: I ordered the Sweet & Sour Pork. My husband ordered the Mai Pai Beef. After our waiter delivered our order, he did not come back and ask if everything was ok. My pork was like rubber. I could not eat it. After we finished eating, fifteen minutes later the waiter appeared with our bill. I told him I could not eat my pork. He said "I told you, you should have ordered the Mai Pai Beef also. He did not clear our table. Upon paying the bill, I told the cashier about our experience. She said "Oh, next time order the chicken, it is tender and she didn't have a comment about our bad service.

Hmmm, hmmm, hmmmm
DESCRIPTION: Gumbo Ya Ya offers wonderful Cajun beyond reasonable prices. I have eaten here as both a vegetarian an now a non-vegetarian and was completely satisfied with Ya Ya s menu. The servings are quite generous. Ya Ya will allow the diner to divide a large sized order into two different sauces, making the difficult decision of what to get easier. I can t specify a favorite due to everything being great, although the Spinach and Mushroom Etouffee and White Chili are regular choices for me. My fianc enjoys the more traditional Gumbo and Jambalaya, while another friend is quite fond of the Maque Choux. The Elvis Pie is wickedly delicious and as for the Bread Pudding, if I could eat it morning, noon, and night, I would.

Tofu Etouffee?
DESCRIPTION: Most restaurants now have one or two vegetarian entrees. But I was surprised to see tofu etouffee at Gumbo Ya Ya. Of course, being etouffee, the roux was probably milk-based, so it was probably not vegan (strict vegetarian). There is a Cajun Succotash which is tomato-based, although it may still include butter. I've only been to Gumbo Ya Ya once, but I'll definitely be going back. The food is very good and reasonably priced. I have missed Jozo's, but managed not to find Gumbo Ya Ya until recently, because they aren't close to where I live. The only thing I'd like to see that wasn't there is Melinda's XXX Habanero Hot Sauce. I was addicted to it when I ate at Jozo's. I'm now a recovering habaneroaholic, but I'd like to fall back off the wagon. I may have to sneak in my own bottle. I like restaurants where really good food is prepared and waiting. I can arrive on my schedule, even late at night, and quickly have a plate of good food. Walk-in Cajun food is quicker than fast food, and a lot better.

Excellent Food at a Great Price
DESCRIPTION: Wow - They have thought of everything at Gumbo Ya Ya. All entrees are the same price; you'll only pay an extra buck for a larger portion. The menu changes daily, so you'll never get tired of the choices, and the food is wonderful. They give samples of anything you want to try, and the food is served super-fast and hot. Everything is homemade and fresh. Drinks are self-serve at the fountain, which means free refills. Hot sauces are offered, but I agree with the reviewer who would like to see Melinda's Hot Sauces on the counter. I love the XXX Hot Habenero & the Garlic Hot Sauce. It is addictive, and goes perfectly with Cajun food. I've always been extremely happy with my Ya Ya experience, and have even placed very large orders for parties. Give it a try!

I LOVE it!
DESCRIPTION: I loved Jozo's and I've tried Bourbon & Toulouse and Joe's OK Bayou, but Gumbo Ya Ya is the BEST. The one down side is that I have to bring in outside food if my young children are with me because the food is too spicy for them.
