Great Steaks Great Service
DESCRIPTION: On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays the Ryan's here in Beckley WV has the best steak around for the money. The seasoning is delicious and you can special order it cooked just how you like it. The service is always good, often great. Combining the all you can eat bar with the all you can eat steaks makes for a great dining experience. My family goes there weekly.

Who would have thought Elkins WV would have a restaurant like this?
DESCRIPTION: The Three Forks Cafe is far and away my favorite restaurant in Elkins. The food is expertly prepared from fresh ingredients with a subtle attention to color, taste, texture and presentation. The salads are the freshest I have had within a 75-mile radius, and are not simply wedges of iceberg smothered in ranch dressing, but simple field greens accompanied by amazing homemade dressings and slightly exotic ingredients such as dried currants, crumbled roquefort cheese, toasted pinenuts or hearts of palm. The limited menu changes daily, based on what fresh ingredients are available and may include a savory lima bean soup, wild mushroom and leek rissoto or corned beef brisquet. There are usually several vegetarian entrees, and excellent pastas. The owners obviously love food and love sharing their enthusiasm with diners. This is not a fancy establishment, but a comfortable restaurant that offers high-quality, interesting dishes at a reasonable price. Beer and wine are available. My only complaint about the Three Forks Cafe is the limited hours of operation. This place is simply too good to only be open three nights a week

DESCRIPTION: Ce n'est pas possible, but in the heartland of American traditional fiddle music in West Virginia, a delightful European surprise awaits the casual visitor. More in the tradition of a neighborhood Parisian bistro or an Italian trattoria, Three Forks Cafe, open only limited hours during the week, will tempt the palate as nowhere else short of Washington DC. The pasta dishes are incredible, and the brisket speaks for itself. The atmosphere is a world away. Service is friendly, and never rushed. Prices very reasonable. Simply not to be missed

Elkins' Shoney's Disappoints
DESCRIPTION: Shoney's in Elkins, West Virginia needs a few breakfast bar tips. Grits need a certain amount of time of thorough cooking, or else they're raw. The fact that they're stirred up with water and heated doesn't render them edible. Don't leave old pancakes on the bar. These are the ones that are hard around the edges and dry in the center. THe pancakes strongly resembled the dry, hard, cold, greasy french toast sticks that were also on the bar. The "french toast" that wasn't in stick form was stale, cold, underseasoned and inedible. Your scrambled eggs were dry, too. My family visited for breakfast at 8:00 a.m., so there should have been no excuse for food being in this condition at this hour of the morning. You also need to know that people like grape jelly. The only jellies available were apple cinnamon and honey (not really a jelly!). Next time I'm in Elkins for business or recreational purposes, I'll dine elsewhere.

Authentic Italian Cuisine at reasonable prices
DESCRIPTION: Chef Franceso Visone, originally from Florence, has brought life to the dining scene in Martinsburg. The menu features several appetizers, about a dozen pastas, and half as many main courses. There is an ever changing though short list of specials. The pastas are first rate, as are the veal dishes. <P>This is NOT an Italian-American restaurant; you will not find meatballs and spaghetti on the menu.

Not what you would expect
DESCRIPTION: To say that I was disappointed with the Red Caboose would be the understatement of the year. After moving to the area recently, we passed the restaurant daily and were interested in the quaint looking establishment. On a Friday evening, we decided to venture out and try our luck. Entering the restaurant, we were immediately surprised. What appeared to be more of a fairly nice restaurant from the outside was more of a rowdy pub on the inside. There were approximately 50 patrons, of which only about 5 were having dinner. The rest were noisily watching a World Wrestling Federation match on the loud TVs that surrounded the dining area, which was, by the way, not separated from the bar area at all. We decided to stay, however, assuming that the food would be tasty, just as their advertising implies. They "specialize" in Italian fare, so we decided to try some pasta dishes. I chose the mushroom pasta, and my better half chose a spicy shrimp dish. When the salads arrived, it appeared that they had been stolen from the high school cafeteria. Limp iceburg lettuce and sad-looking tomatoes were drowned in a bottled italian dressing. The bread, made by a local italian bakery, was the highlight of the meal. When the entrees arrived, I was surprised, to say the least. My mushroom pasta, at $10/plate, was slightly more appealing than the salad, but was at room temperature and doused in a bottle of olive oil. My other's shrimp pasta was filled with salad shrimp in a bottled-tasting sauce spiked with some red wine and red pepper flakes. We hurriedly choked down what we could, paid our bill, and left. I suggest going to the Red Caboose if you're looking for a night of drinking with the locals. If, however, good food in a decent atmosphere is what you're looking for, you would be better off to scout out another restaurant.

DESCRIPTION: If you cooked a rat on the BBQ it would have been better than the food you get at the redcaboose.Infacked the cheff is a crackhead.But if you are looking for the food to be droped on the floor,and you dont care about tast then the redcaboose is where you need to eat.the recipe for the spag. tast like it came from spagetty-os and the meatballs hade more mold than pinacelin it self.
